Lewis Phillips, Pastoral Assistant/Organist
Biographical
Information
Lewis Phillips joined our staff in August, 2003 as Organist.
His duties were expanded and he began working as Pastoral Assistant/Organist in
December, 2003. In addition to his Organist responsibilities, Lewis will also
assist in visitation to members of our congregation, work with our Senior
Friends Fellowship, and assist in the administrative work of the congregation.
Lewis served as Associate Pastor/Music and Senior Adults at First
Baptist Church
in Mocksville, NC
from September, 1988 until June, 2003. While at First
Baptist Church,
he served in several capacities, including music ministry, pastoral ministry,
youth ministry, and senior adult ministry. Lewis is also co-founder and one of
the musical directors of the Davie Community Youth Choir, an
interdenominational group comprised of youth from churches in Davie
County. This group originally was
comprised of 7th – 12th graders, but grew in numbers so
much that it was eventually divided into middle school and high school groups.
The high school group takes a week long tour each summer and has traveled to
several states, including Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland,
Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, and Michigan.
Lewis received his Bachelor of Music degree from Samford University
in Birmingham, Alabama
in 1982 and his Master of Church Music degree from The Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky
in 1985. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1995 by First
Baptist Church
in Mocksville.
